Immunology of Infection

Ανοσολογία Λοίμωξης

Even today, infectious diseases compromise public health and welfare, since 25% of deaths are due to infections of pathogens of diverse biological complexity, apart those caused by the current pandemic, despite the long and extensive research efforts that have been made to combat them. Our group, centers its research activities on host–pathogen interaction elucidation and delineation of immune responses induced during infections with intracellular pathogens of parasitic or viral origin. By understanding the pathogenic mechanisms that determine the onset and establishment of the disease caused by such pathogens, we are strive to develop innovative solutions for disease prevention and accurate diagnosis. Our research is focused on two infectious diseases, leishmaniasis and fish viral encephalopathy.
